Revolutionary War

Reed and Jack's Revolutionary War Project - 6th Grade McGorty OHES

1763.. It all began.

The New World Colonists arrived on the shores of  North America in 1607 and for over 150 years, they were under the rule of The British Empire.

In 1763, following the French & Indian War, the British needed to preserve their relationship with the American Indians. To accomplish this, the British sent a proclamation to the North American Colonists directing them not pass the Ohio River Valley in exploration or in settlement. The Colonists, having spent over a century building communities, commerce and culture - pushed back on the Empire and forward toward its Independence.

It all began with the Proclamation of 1763.

Battling for Freedom

Independence from British rule was not achieved overnight. Over the course of seven years major battles were fought including:
The Battle of Lexington & Concord
Siege of Boston
Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
Battle of Bunker Hill & Breed's Hill
Battle of Quebec
Battle of Long Island
Battle of Harlem Heights
Battle of Trenton & Princeton
Battle of Saratoga
Siege of Fort Ticonderoga
Battle of Brandywine
Capture of Savannah
Siege of Charleston

Red Coats Falling.

The Revolutionary War was fought through numerous battles spanning seven years. These battles affected the lives of tens of thousands of British, Colonists and Native Americans. Additionally, it changed the culture in the New World and commerce around the world.

The British finally surrendered in 1781. ..Then the work began to form a united nation separate from any foreign rule.

Take a look at some of our videos below and our slide show for more insight into the war that created the way for our nation.
